Will RAID work using MD1200 with R620 and 6Gbps SAS HBA?
We have an R620 that already has Dell SAS HBA in it that is attached to a 124T tape library.
Just got an MD1200 and I plugged it into the other port on the SAS HBA. I can see the drives in Windows disk management. I can also see them in Open Manage, but there are no options to use RAID or create virtual disks. Should there be?
In fact, OpenManage says "Connector 0 (Non-RAID)" in regards to the 6Gbps SAS HBA. I've been looking online for drivers for that card that allow RAID and can't find any. Am I hosed? How do I get the RAID to work on the MD1200?

Hello wardog25,
For the MD1200 you need to use a PERC card as that will allow you create a raid array. The SAS 6hba that is used for your 124T is not a raid card so you will not be able to create a raid on that card. For an MD1200 we recommend that you use a PERC H800. Here is a link to the Interoperability Guide for the MD1200 & if you look on page 2 it list the supported raid controllers. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md1200_Reference%20Guide_en-us.pdf
Here is a link to purchase a PERC H800 if you need it.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, Sam.
Silly question, perhaps, but could we pull out the HBA and replace it with the PERC H800? Or will I need both PCI cards to support a MD1200 and 124T from that server? (I haven't checked, will the PERC H800 fit in a R620? I remember the space is limited)

Hello wardog25,
You will need both cards in the server to use both the MD1200 & your PV124T. You don’t want to put the PV124T on the raid controller as I have seen cases where the Tape drive can take a raid array offline and can cause data corruption.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
