Hello, it's very hard to find (at least for me) an optical dvd writer for my 3640 (I don't need blu ray). After lots of searching I found one on Ebay, compatible with T3600 T3610 T5600 T5610 T5810 T7910. Would it fit into my t3640? Thank you very much for a response!

Those thin, laptop-like drives are flimsy, and not designed for heavy "reading-playing" use (much less burning). If you do get one, be sure to turn-on "verify after writing" in burning-software.

Not sure why you want to burn DVDs, but ...

Better to get a "real" full-sized 5.25inch DVD-Burner, and put it in a USB-Enclosure. This LG should work fine.

The problem with 3620, 3640, etc is that you cannot order the tiny metal bracket and screw that holds it in place. You can order a vantec enclosure that sits on the outside for a 9.5mm laptop style DVD that uses USB3 but those drives are flimsy and easily damaged.

You may not have a good opinion of the slimline drives, but some slimline drives can be better than full size drives.

I'm a subscriber to Netflix DVD, and mostly by accident, I discovered that the best optical to read 'heavily used' (read: scratched) DVDs is the slimline drive that's in an old HP Pavilion g4 laptop.  

I have 2 blue-ray writers and several DVD R/Ws (both ext. and int.) and the optical in that HP is capable of reading many DVDs that fail in all the other drives.
