Connect external touchscreen to non-touchscreen laptop

I have a Precision 7520 with a non-touch screen display.  I am looking to connect an external touchscreen monitor to this laptop.  What do I need to do in order to get this to work?  Will the external touchscreen monitor "just work" when I attach it to the laptop, or is there additional set up required to get this to work?

Hi jaredschutt,

Assuming you have Windows 10, yes it should just work once connected via USB, although the monitor may have it's own drivers and software. It should be similar to this:

Does it have to be connected via usb, or can I connect it to one of the laptop's hdmi or display ports?

Yes, to get touch functionality USB needs to be connected. Additionally you can use HDMI or DP for the video/audio.
