Fingerprint in lieu of power on password

On my Thinkpad, I could use my fingerprint instead of typing the power-on and hard disk password at bootup/startup.

Possible to do the same on the 7540?  I have the FIPS reader.

Re: Fingerprint in lieu of power on password

@Alddyn your system can be setup to use the fingerprint reader in the same way as your ThinkPad.

It all depends on whether you want to let Windows manage this using Windows Hello or use the Dell Data Protection Security tools to manage. Please be aware its not possible to use both, its either one or the other.

Re: Fingerprint in lieu of power on password

Thank you Alan

Using my service tag ID in the Drivers & Download section,  I do not see Dell Data Protection Security tools  available for download

Where is the best place to download the software?

Re: Fingerprint in lieu of power on password

@Alddyn my apologies for providing incorrect information. Security Tools is still available for download via the security software downloads section, however checking the compatible systems product list the Precision 7540 is not on the list. It only works on systems launched pre 2017.

As I understand it only our Enterprise kit now has dedicated security tools software. You are limited to using Windows Hello for fingerprint configuration.
