Precision 7740, battery drain, WD19DC, 240W adapter

My precision 7740, the battery starts to drain while on high CPU and GPU load for prolonged time. The laptop is powered via WD19DC and an additional 240W adapter.

I connect the 240W adapted because the WD19DC does not seem to be able to power the CPU and GPU at the same time (GPU reduces frequency after about 10mins)

Once the batter strarts to drain, the laptop start to recharge the battery, but does so intermittantly (it goes through a charge/stop charing cycle every 1min). And each time it stops recharging, this interferes with performance.

Any idea what is going on?

Thank you! We have received the required details. We will work towards a resolution. In the meantime, you may also receive assistance or suggestions from the community members.

Thank you for the time. As per the troubleshooting steps tried, we can confirm that the system is working as designed. It is designed to support hybrid power mode which takes the advantage of using a smaller and lighter AC adapter. When the system total power requirement is more than the capacity of AC adapter, the system will start consuming the battery power without sacrificing the performance. With this design, you may encounter the battery drain situation when the system is running certain applications such as 3D games, video processing app etc., which may put both discrete graphics and processor in heavy loading status.
