new WD22TB4 Module does not work with my existing WD19TB Dock

I plugged in the newly purchased "WD22TB4 Module" to my existing "Dell Thunderbolt Dock - WD19TB", the dock does not show anything on my monitor. And then I have to swap back the existing module to get it work.

Not sure my new module has issue or they are not actually compatible.

My laptop: Precision 5750

Let's just resolve current issue.

WD19TB (old) + WD22TB4 Module (new)

(No output to any monitor except laptop itself screen)

I don't have WD22TB4 dock but just its module.

Thanks Dell support team to trouble shooting this issue at various steps.

Let me summarize all to share with you.

The original issue:  After swap with the new WD22TB4 onto my exiting WD19TB, the dock is not able to connect to my Dell Precision 5750.

Solution

Swap back old module to WD19TB so it can be connected to laptop.

And then update firmware on the WD19TB. (The firmware is on the body of WD19TB, not on its module).

And then switch Intel display card to NVidia card in BIOS.

Finally reboot laptop and plugin dock.

The WD19TB body plus WD22TB4 module supports two 4K @60hz (DP) and 3rd 4K @30Hz (HDMI) on my Precision 5750.

The WD22TB4 supports three 4K @60hz but the Dell precision 5750 (5 series) does support three 4K at all 60Hz except Precision 7540, 7550, 7740 & 7750.

Take away

  1. If old WD19TB is not able to connect to laptop, its firmware won't be able to be updated then please not to buy new WD22TB4 module.
  2. Although the WD22TB4 support three 4K @60hz in spec but it won't guarantee with this as it will depends on your display card and laptop model.
