I did your suggestion,it didnt work.I have 3 laptops ,my dell 1505 w/ xp works fine with the printer dell photo 962 aio,my HP w/vista home premium after your idea recognizes the printer but wont print. My dell 1501 w/ vista basic home won't either. No errors come up on either comp.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated.
Having virtually the same problem. 962 is connected via USB to a Dimension running XP Home SP3. This prints fine as do my other XP machines on the network.
Inspiron running Vista SP1 used to work but now, although the printer seems to be seen as \\VistaMachine\Dimension printer, when trying to print a Test Page "Communication Not Available".
I've tried everything, including trying a system restore - although I can't seem to get back far enough before the SP1 update.
Using Windows Vista, on Dell Inspiron Laptop, with a Dell AIO 962 that used to be connected to an old computer. I followed all instructions above to try and make it work with the laptop. The USB connection never seems to be recognized and it is stuck. I tried using the Dell Driver Setup program as well as the Windows "Install a new printer" feature... both aren't able to make connection. Any help appreciated.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any print jobs stuck in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) untilit prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper Vista drivers. Install the drivers. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
