Rick,

The 924 is connected to the desktop dell setup for printer sharing and it works because a netbook Dell I also own (running XP) is able to print successfully on it.

The Lenovo is running 64 bit and has MS Essentials on it as firewall/virus.

The desktop dell has Mc Afee as fiewall/virus but when I tried it all before I messaged you, I tried it all with both fiewalls turned off and still had a problem.

I hope that what you need, I've run the tool and ready for the next instruction.

Cheers

Sean

Sean,

Here are some helpful links...

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

How to Network with HomeGroup in Windows 7

Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials

Allowing Printer past McAfee

1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’

2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.

3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.

4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.

5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.

6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’

7. Restart the computer

Rick,

My version of McAfee Security centre is the latest and is slightly different to what you describe (I can't find a version number on the centre so I can't tell you what I have ) but on the firewall section under Ports and System Services Windows File Sharing (NETBIOS) Ports 137-139 is enabled along with the IP address of the Lenovo under the connections tab.  As for MS Essentials I'm not sure what to make an exception for as the all-in-one centre has never displayed an error like the one in the link.  Doesn't MS Essentials use Windows firewall anyway that the driver installation program automatically sorts out?  Anyway I don't believe my issue is firewall related as when I've tried all this I've turned off both firewalls to see if I could get the Lenovo to print first before sorting out the firewalls with the same result and the firewalls are not affecting file sharing on any of the network.  Is the Mc Afee Security Centre steps I've taken what you wanted me to do in your last message? If so I'm ready for more instructions otherwise can you advise further?

Sean,

Did I every have you a Finding System Information log. Remove your product ID and post the rest of the information back here. Lately, with this printer, many people have been installing this printer on computers with non-Englisk operating systems. Maybe the finding system information log can provide me with some information.

Sean,

If you try running Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Does your computer have AMD USB Audio Driver Filter? If so, go to start, control panel, programs and features and uninstall it.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 924 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Virus programs and firewalls can hinder printer communications.

Rick,

The Lenovo does not have the AMD Audio Driver Filter.  I followed you instructions to the letter, I know its to the letter because I've done it all a few times now.  I physicall disconnected the printer, did the compatibility mode process and turned off both firewalls.  I did it twice and connected the printer when the setup program asked to look for the printer and when the message the printer is not connect both ways when I tried to print a test message or scan a test scan the communication error message came up.  I'm sorry it didn't work do you have any other ideas?

Sean,

Try reading this thread...

Re: Dell AIO 924 driver solution for windows 7 Language solution

You mmight have to make a English (UK) Folder litke the other members had to. The English or English (US) drivers are just not working to their fullest.

Sean,

Did you try making an Englisk (UK) folder and copy everything in the English folder and paste it to the new folder?

Try deleting the English folder?

Rick,

Same result.  I have had no problems installing the all-in-one centre software and driver unlike everyone else.  For me its a comms problem once installed.  I'm starting to think the 924 will never work with the Win7 lenovo.

Rick,

This time the software and drivers installation program stopped with an error message so I don't think that's the problem.

Sean,

I understand you have Englisk (UK) installed on the computer. I thought the Re: Dell AIO 924 driver solution for windows 7 Language solution would possibably solve the problem.

Virus programs usually block printer communications, and we by-passed that.

Installing the printer in the compatibility mode usually works.

I have run out of ideas, unless there is malware or the operating system needs repaired. The only issues I know of are the AMD audio drivers filter and the NVIDIA's Network Access Manager.
