Dell AIO 942 Communication problem. XP/Vista Network.

I have a Dell AIO 942 printer connected to my XP Home machine.  Print functions work fine on XP machine.  I recently got a HP Laptop for my Wife.  We set up a secure wireless network which works perfectly with the XP system (file sharing) and internet connection.  I have installed the current XP drivers and software on the XP machine and I installed the "32 bit Vista" drivers from Dell's website on the Vista machine.  The Vista laptop still will not print to the printer.  On Vista machine under printer properties, sharing tab - upon clicking additional drivers the only driver installed is "mode 3 x86 driver".  I thought the vista driver is supposed to be a 32 bit deal?  Anyway.  I cannot print anything to the printer from the Laptop.  I have gone through the forum over and over and done the same steps (cleanup utility from dell, uninstalled drivers, removed the w32x86 folder, reinstall vista drivers etc etc etc) over and over and I still can't get the printer to work on the network.  SOMEONE please tell me this WILL work somehow...

v8s10,

Let's clean out the printer from the Vista Laptop first buy following the directions below. Please make sure that all computers ahvenet Framework installed(Windows Update Custom) and the latest Java. Also on the Vista machine, make sure not to allow Microsoft to update the drivers for anything you have on the computer. Microsoft = Windows Updates ONLY.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers, choose network and follow the instructions. If this doesn't work also read...

Sharing a printer through a wireless network

I've already done this stuff twice now.  I still have all of the driver and utility downloads on each system..  I'll just do it all over again for a third go-around..

Re: Dell AIO 942 Communication problem. XP/Vista Network.

v8s10,

Try using these settings in your wireless router.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security. Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.
