Dell All in One Printer 968 will not print black from XPS 1330

My All in One 968 Printer has stopped printing black text. On the test page no Black lines appear. In addition a grey arrow now appears on all my printouts. I have checked the ink cartridge and all is fine and the ink levels are all good. Any ideas?

BBC Guy,

Are you using Dell Series 7 ink cartridges?

Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color?

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 7 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 7 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 7 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 7 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible that you got a Dell Series 7 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Take it back to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.

Hi RIck

THank you so much for this. However I have done all the above and still no black printing. This is so weird.

My XPS M1330 recently has had a new hard drive fitted by Dell, could this be to blame?

Any other thoughts on what I can do before I throw the Dell Printer out of the window and go and buy an HP?

I cant take the printer back because it was a gift last year from Dell for some poor performance in the past, and now the person who supplied it has left the company.

Thanks again for your help

BBC Guy,

The new hard drive, was the factory image in th hard drive and install automatically?

Can you run the Finding System Information Tool and post the information back here.

Can you tell me the virus program and firewall you're using.

Your Dell 968 Printer, usb connection or does it have the wireless adapter?

Hi Rick.

Many thanks for your help with this.

The information you wanted is below. The virus programme I am using is Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware with Microsoft Security Essentials as the firewall. I am using a USB connection with the printer.

I have also tried using the photocopier and a new cartridge and still no black will print.

Thanks again

Fergal

BBC Guy,

Start, control panel, printers and faxes, your printer, printer preferences, advanced, more options check to make sure the complete-a-print boxes are not checked.

Since you cannot copy a document under the glass, I would say the Black Dell Series 7 ink cartridge is bad. If new, take to place of purchase for a replacement.

You can try reinstalling the printer using the instructions balow and see what happens.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers. Install the Vista 32-bit drivers. You should get a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials

Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spyware are malware removal tools and not consider as virus programs, they suppliment Microsoft Essentials.
