Dell Printer 720 doesn't work on Win7 64-bit

I have tried the method that I could find on the internet, including the one in the forum: uninstall the former drive, restart, and run vista 64-bit drive with compatibility, but it just doesn't work, and the installer finishes and close itself automatically without making any difference. I really need this printer working. Anyone can help me?

tom99sarah,

Run System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.

Also provide the virus program and firewall you're using.

tom99sarah,

You didn't translate the log for me, did you? The Input Locale states Chinese but the system locale is English (US) so I need this clarified. It also shows that you're in the Eastern time zone.

The printer drivers need to match the operating system that's installed on the system and that is why I am asking these questions. If the operating system is Chinese, I have a solution that should work to get the printer operating correctly.

Virus protection, is that Norton 360, Chinese?

Rick

Hello, Rick! I did't translate it myself. My operating system is in Chinese but I set the language of non-unicode program English, so the result is in English itself. The anti-virus program is called 360 security guard, and it's only got Chinese version, but I turn it off when I was installing the drive, so I don't think it's a problem.

tom99sarah,

Thank you for the clarification.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it promnpts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You may or may not get a message to connect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...

C:\Program Files\Dell 720\Drivers

You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder Chinese. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the Chinese folder.

Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on.

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 720 Color Inkjet Printer owners thread (W7)

The printer will work in English instead of Chinese.

Rick,

I've done what you said, but it's still not working. When I install the driver R149373.exe, it simply unzips and after it finishes the window where it unzipped pops up and it doesn't start installing, so I clicked the setup.exe and it starts. Then, when I'm looking for the English folder I found that there were 2 folders in C:\Program Files\Dell 720\Drivers: COMMON and X64. And I don't know what to do now. I tried creating a Chinese folder and copied what's in X64 and install the driver, it's not working---it simply finishes and close itself.

Thank you for your time!

tom99sarah,

Look insided one of those folders. common or x64 and see if there is an English folder. That is where you'll need to copy the files from the English folder and paste them to a Chinese folder, then click on the setup.exe, again. Did you change setup.exe to the Vista Compatibility mode?

Maybe try these Chinese Vista 64-bit drivers for the Dell 720 Printer. Install them in the Vista Compatibility mode. You might have toi change the setup.exe file to Vista compatibility to install.

Rick,

Unfortunately it didn't work. Maybe I should tell you my install process in detail.

I removed the driver, using the patch and checked the control panel to make sure it's removed. Then, I restarted the computer and run the driver R149373.exe in Vista compatibility mode: it asked to create a folder C:\ dell\ drivers\ R149373 and I clicked continue. When it finished the folder C:\ dell\ drivers\ R149373 popped up and I saw a Setup.exe and I ran it in compatibility mode, and during the installation it required printer connection and I did. After it finished, it didn't ask me to restart the computer or anything, it just closed, and I found a folder C:\ program files\ dell photo printer 720/ drivers and in that folder there are two folders named COMMON and X64, within which I cannot find English folders, however, there is a folder named CHI_SIMP in both of the folders which I thought might mean Simplified Chinese.

So, I checked the folder C:\ dell\ drivers\ R149373 which was created by R149373.exe instead of Setup.exe, there are several folders which had sub-folders named english or ENGLISH, and I created folders named chinese or CHINESE besides them and copied all the contents and ran the setup.exe again. Nothing changed.

I'm so sorry for  the bother, but I really need this thing working.

Thank you so much!

tom99sarah,

Try looking at...

C:\Program Files

or

C:\Program Files (x86)

And look for a Dell 720 Printer folder. Once you get inside, hopefully you might see the English folder or a drivers folder.

Did you try the Chinese drivers I found?

Did you run the patch to remove the printer, restart, make sure the printer was removed, then try the Chinese Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode?

Did you allow the printer past Norton?

Here is the thread(Re: Dell AIO 924 driver solution for windows 7 Language solution) where Boai has found the solution. This has worked for other models and also other brands. There has to be a folder named the same as the operating system installed, next to the English folder for the printer.

Download and install Search Everything open it and type English. Look to see if it finds an English folder in the Dell 720 printer folder.

Still not working. I even changed the operating system language English, so I don't think it's a problem about languages.

tom99sarah,

This has worked before, I can't figure out why it doesn't for you.

Another approach.

Your Dell Printer was made for Dell by Lexmark. If you can find a similar model, the drivers may or may not work.

It's OK. I really appreciate your patient help anyway. I'll try to figure it out.
