Dell V505 giving me problems

I recently purchased a Dell V505 All in one printer and connected it to my Dell E520 via USB port. The printer causes my computer to have all sorts of problems after installing the drivers and restarting the computer.

I cannot connect to the internet, I can't print, and the computer hangs badly when I try to launch any program. When this happens I have to restart in Safe Mode and uninstall the printer drivers in order for everything to go back to normal.

This happens when I disable anti-virus and firewall programs as well. I have never had a problem with a printer like this, am I doing something wrong?

Sorry I fell off the radar, but just at the time I got my replies (which I lost that first reply who was going to step me thru the AIO 964) I had both my Dad and my husband drop on the same day requiring 911. Hearts are bad and I had THREE ambulances in my back yard at one time.  Didn't look too good for me since the common demoninator between these two is..ME.  But my Dad had to go to the hospital and my husband...well - his is due to a massive 2005 heart attack and this is just going to happen.

So I compute to try to save some sanity.  Now - I got the VW505 to work.  It prints.  The imaging software is what is blowing the errors (that printer card monitor).  As for faxing - choose not to install that and that error message is gone.  I assume the same for scanning, but I need to scan, so that issue is unresolved.  I have not had time to play with the AIO 964 reinstall - later on that.

The V (wireless) 505 does have some connectivity quirks.  Like when my great and wonderful cable service drops off and my network has a 45-second hiccup every 1 hour.  When it is bad enough, you have to just power down the printer and power it back up.  I haven't found an easier way to force it to detect other than when it is coming back up from power down.  Safe mode doesn't work.  I can deal with that, but does anyone have scanning capability on this thing?  OS is vista32-bit Biz.  Laptop 1720, 4GB ram, enough drive space, blah, blah.

And did anyone else notice the literature and some pics now do not show this printer with any card slots?  That is the process for those that I think is bombing and they must get triggered in the 'imaging toolbox'.  My printer has card slots and i would (NEED) those to work as well as scan.  For a printer/fax/copier/scanner with card slots - i figure 1 out of 4 isn't bad the way everything else has been for me of late.

I WOULD like the card and scanning issue resolved. Tried re-installing without no FW or anti-virus and same result.  And there is no competiiton yet with the other 964 drivers or software since i have no had time to have a go at it.

thanks and sorry for dropping out .  and i got such exacting instructions!  thanks!

I have the same problem with the printer stopping and then freezing up my Inspiron with vista. If this is a problem with the Lexmark software part of the drivers, shouldn't Dell have a recall on the printers or get Lexmark to fix the problem? I have a new printer sitting next to me disconnected. I can use system restore, so far, to get my computer working again. This isn't right.

Hi PudgyOne,
I have searched and read all I could find about the Dell V505 printer that I bought that doesnt work.
I will now outline the steps in which the problems occurred:

1. Now according to the instructions you install the drivers and follow the prompts to set up the wireless part. It recognises my wireless LAN but when I enter the security key (which is 9 characters long) it comes up with an error saying that the security key needs to be between 8 and 32 characters long).
2. After getting frustrated I dismissed the wireless part (thinking I could do this later on and really nut it out) and shut down my computer.
3. Next time I logged the computer on it took
    - 45 mins to boot up
    - had the errors noted on this webpage
        http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19241975/19370446.aspx
4. So I followed the instructions on this webpage suggested by pudgyone to fix the problem and it didnt do anything. Same problems happening exactly as before.
I have been to my security settings on my modem - I have tried to install the printer without any security settings thinking that maybe the security key is the problem. Well with no security I could link it up but then my whole system crashed again. I have checked the security codes, the encryption type changed the channel to number 11 and still no go. I have checked for updated firmware for my modem and powered everything up and down many times.
Here is my info
New Printer: Dell V505 (I bought it so i could have wireless printing)
My Computer: Dell Studio 1737
My OS: Vista 32- bit
Modem: Belkin ADSL2+ Wireless G-router model # F5D7633au4A
Modem security: WPA personal with security key
Please I am at my wits end with this. All I want is a simple wireless printer to be used in a home setting.
Any other suggestions?
Any updates that may have fixed this problem before I send it back to Hell (oops sorry Dell).
Please Help

Skeleton Harlem,

I have heard the Dell support has told people to change the WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security (personal) key to 13 characters.

Rick,

I also found this:

ftp://ftp.lexmark.com/driver/inkjet_drivers/slowboot/32bit/

As it has been suggested that the lexmark series 5600 - 6600 use the same drivers as the dell V505 would this work?

thanks again

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the above suggestion. It worked and I managed to get the printer onto my network.

Unfortunately I shut down for the evening and when I booted up in the morning I had the same problems with my system failing;

  • 45 mins to boot up
  • bluetooth stacking failure
  • the FAX .error
  • the crashing of my system (I had to reboot in safe mode, restore before the driver installation and also uninstall V505 in safe mode before my computer would work again).

Is there new drivers out that have fixed this problem?

Is this related to the Lexmark drivers that are used in the V505?

Any help is appreciated with this, I thank you very much for your help so far.

Cheers,

Skeleton Harlem

Skeleton,

Your link did not work. You can try it because the printer was made for Dell by Lexmark. It might just work.

Rick,

Thankyou for trying to help me out.

Ah I tried it all but to no avail so now I am in limbo mode with telephone support!

Looks like it will probably be replaced with a different model.

Thanks Again

SH

I have now tried EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE SOLUTION!!!

Dell V505

Windows 7 64 bit

Updated drivers

.NET 3.5

Print communication error - so enabled bydirectional

CONSTANT failures in printing

All anti-virus was uninstalled and removed to run clean install

Install / Uninstall - 12 times - cannot print a single thing

Printer freezes and hangs a 1 page word doc

For 1 year, used this thing 5 times.  Now out of warranty

NOTHING WORKS

USB - Direct Connection to printer

 Mercts,

Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support

Did you try installing the Vista 64-bit drivers in the compatibility mode? Make sure the computer is online to install.

Other members have installed the V505 on their Windows 7 systems.

Just a reminder that THIS member's Dell V505, since being installed on a Win 7 x64 system last year has never, not once, scanned anything, at all, and prints only sporadically and erratically. It does, however, copy very nicely. This forum's friend, PudgyOne, offered many ideas for fixes last year but, unfortunately, none worked.

So, I still have a V505 One-in-one printer which, by-the-way, was Dell's idea of a good replacement for the V305 that broke soon after purchase.

No one from Dell, including its employees who read this forum have ever deigned to respond to my pleas for help.

Just another Dell product that just doesn't work.

Definitely not the Dell I remember from its early days.

lngtmdllusr,

Did you try uninstalling Zone Alarm, restart your computer, then try to install the printer?

Try running  Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. Have learned a few tricks since we last tried this, that might work.
