Dell Series 21,24 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 21, 24 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It possible to get a Dell Series 21,24 Cartridge with a bad sensor. Take back to place of purchase for a replacement.

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Hi,  I just purchased the v715w and I was wondering if you can setup an option to do a "Print Preview" of your print job before it actually prints?  I just upgraded to this printer from my Epson  StylusCx6600 which has worked flawlessly for 5 years of constant printing and has moved over  to the kids room for another 5 years of service.

Thanks,

Adrian

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

netdefender,

Print preview is usually a part of the program you're printing from. What program are you trying to print from?

If you want to print from a browser, which browser?

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Hi, we have a Dell V715W installed on our wireless network. The printer installed on the wireless network completely and went through the entire process until reaching print a test page. Upon attempting to print the test page, an error occurs stating that communication is not available to the printer due to the fact that enable bidirectional printing needs to be turned on. However, when we go to the printer properties dialog and the Ports tab and attempt to check the box to turn this on, it is completely grayed on and cannot be selected.  HELP!!! What can we do to fix this problem> let me tell you that we have installed the latest driver (Operating System is Windows Vista) dated 11/2009, we have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer 3 times each time getting the same problem. (Note also using a Linksys Router brand new with updated firmware, etc.) We are at a loss as to what to do to get this to where we can check that box. All it is is a simple check of the box.

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Inoelcpa,

Are you using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in your wireless router?

If it's greyed out, then it's possible that the printer might not be installed correctly. try using the instructions located at...

The see what happens.

Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Dear PudgyOne,

please take aloot at my problem: I've buyed a V715w printer with my new Notebook Latitude 540. Just the first time, after the printer has been powered on, the cartrige inserted and the alignment sheet printed, no blinking orange WiFi symbol was detected, always grayed. Using the tool button (configuration) I can enter in the printer's menù, but if i choose "Network Setup" I get the message "network connection in progress.." for 5 seconds, then it turn back to the main tool menù. For me was aspected to get the Network setting, where I can set the TCP/IP properties and insert WiFi settings, but nothing. Very strange for a printer with Ethernet and WiFi network cards........

Ok, I start with "Dell Printer Startup Page" and choose "Wireless settings utility", it says that I must connect the printer via USB cable (....) the it search for WiFi networks but the list is empty. On the printers no orange blinking WiFi symbol is detected. If I connect he printer via ethernet port to my router with DHCP server enabled any IP is released, the printer doesn't broadcast any DCHP packet at all.. -> the ethernet card don't works, neither the WiFi one (gray WiFi symbol).

After some retries, removing/inserting cartrige, powering off/on printer and so on I detected the BLINKING ORANGE Wifi Symbol. In Network Setup menù now I can see the submenù options as TCP/IP Wireless Settings, Autoset WiFi... I run Wireless settings utility on the PC, it found my WiFi home network (it's WEP/open without password for easy setup) and after applying settings the WiFi symbol becomes GREEN. I can print, scan, all is fine.

Perfect. Power off printer, remove ower cable for one hour, power on the printer: GRAY SYMBOL, the printer won't connect to WiFi netwokr.

Remove driver, reinstall driver, reset wifi settings, the symbol is GREEN, ok.

The printer stay all the nights powered off, in the morning I power on, GRAY SYMBOL.

It seems to me that printer lost his network configuration. The Network Setup  menù is still NOT ACCESSIBLE (waiting for 5 seconds, the back).

Can be a fault in hardware?? It seems to me that this don't depends from aptop or Windows 7 configuration.. If the printer don't blink the orange WiFi symbol, is a problem in printer hardware, isn't it??

Thanks for your support!

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Massimo,

The bold print is a little hard on my eyes.

First, I have always had my wireless router setup with these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11. I think the problem with using WEP is that it can be hacked and communications are much better with WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security (Personal)

I went to setup my Dell V715w Printer and I used the disk that came with the printer. It gives you step by step instructions to install the printer. It should prompt you to connect the printer and it will find your network.

I leave my wireless router on 24/7 as well as the Dell V715w Printer. I pressed the button to use eco mode. The printer goes to sleep after 10 minutes of not being used. I have 5 laptops in my household and when any of them need to print, the printer wakes up and usually prints in less than a mnute.

The light should be green when connected to your network. If you use eco mode, then it will blink green until it's in use.

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Sorry for the bold, but when I'm gone to edit my post, it's dispayed with the html tags so is very long for me to remove all the <b></b> tags, very strange way to edit a message, don't you find, rick? but everything is a bit strange in Dell site.. specially find a way to contact support.

Starting from my last idea: Lexmark printer are very bad, specially for software, second for hardware, and the V715w is a Lexmark printer selled by Dell, please give me now you personal opinion on this following point:

1) don't you find a bit strange that a printer, with WiFi and Ethernet support, must be configured using a software on the PC that request to be connected via USB printer?? (this makes smile also the stones..)

2) what about if I have had Unix or Linux OS?? Using standard TCP/IP printing I think is possible also for Unix and Linux to print to this printer via ethernet lan, but if the printer can only be set via WIndows or Mac software, I can't use this with Unix or Linux ONLY because the first settings can't be inserted directrly by printer display but via Windows Software (this makes smile also the chikens..)

3) having Ethernet card, why, by default, the ethernet card isn't enabled and setted in DHCP mode, so, without installing software on my PC and to dirty my Windows installation, the ethernet card can receive an IP from a DHCP server on the lan and reply to ping command (so I can see that network connection is working fine), then I can go with http browser and set manually the printer network settings using internal printer web server?????? This seems to be an "expert mode", but I can choose it if I'm a Network Admin, or a System Builder or an Expert Technician, instead to use the horrible software provided in the CD; can't be this to be viewed as an intelligent idea?? Probably not..

4) wich can be the problem, if the first time (after removed the printer from the box) I power on the printer, finish the alignment process, go to "Network Setup" menu and after 5 seconds I turn back to main menù, witout showing me the submenu voices??. Must the "Network feature" to be enabled by software using USB cable??? Must I REALLY USE THE SOFTWARE TO SET SOME SIMPLE TCP/IP SETTINGS THAT CAN BE ENTERED DIRECTLY BY PRINTER KEYBORAD?? When the "Network feature" menu works fine (I can see the menù choices when WiFi Symbol is orange or green but NOT when it's GRAYED), all TCP/IP parameters can be accessed and changed, including WiFi SSID but not the Encryption/Autentication type and Network Key..was difficult for Lexmark (or Dell custom firmware release) to add also this kind of parameters directly into the printer firmware.. maybe yes.. so I must use the PC software to do this.. I'm really thinking that Lexmark want to force you to use the software on PC so you can see how beautiful is the GUI and how much good are the Lexmark designer and developers! Yes, must be this way..

RIck, try to give me your personal opinion about ALL the 4 points I've explained upstairs. No matter if you are a Dell employeer, Lexmark employeer or if you rellay love those brands, try to say me the truth!

Now, come to my problem.

Rick, please, belive me, I'm not a home user, I'm a Software Developer for Win32/WinCE environment, I'm 22 years in this filed, and I'm Network Administrator and System Integrator too. So, you are not speaking with a "sunday computer user". If you read with attention my previous post you can find all the replys to the suggests you gave me before.

1) no protection on WiFi is for remove variables to the problem: without any Authentication and Key the only parameter I must insert is the SSID of my WiFI connection.. nothing easyest, I can't go wrong with it! In fact one shot I've benn able to take the GREEN WiFi symbol (and the network menù has been accessible showing TCP/IP settings and WiFI signal level)! In a second time I can set also WPA2, but for now, until the problem is present, less variables are taked in the game, more is easy to find the cause (this is a direct translation from italian way to say..)

2) one time I was able to get GREEN symbol, and I was able to print a test page from WIndows, get a document scanned on My Documents folder, and send a fax I think I can say IT WORKS FINE, or not? Ok, it's night now, I go to sleep, power off (not suspend) the printer. The morning next I wake up, make breakfast, power on printer (the WiFi Access Point is always power on, also during the night, nothing is changed with it), after the initial self-check the printer arrives in the "Copy Mode" but the WiFi Symbol IS GRAYED, not blinking orange, nor fixed green, GRAYED!  WWWWHHHHHYYYYYY?? Has the printer lost the configuration?? If I try to go inside "Network Setup" printer menù, if waits for 5 seconds then turn back. Network settings are inacessible!!!!! WWWHHHYYYY???? What I've done so wrong?? Where is my mistake?? To have buyed a Lexmark printer?? Yes, this is the mistake.

3) Why must I remove the software from windows and reinstall each time this happens?? What happens if the electricity goes away for 2 hours?? When it come backs the printer has lost the network configuration and I must reinstall each time?? No, this is not the right way... RIck.. not the right way.

So, if my NEW 3-days printer has a problem in hardware ok, I accept this, and all this strange behavior are easy explained. But if all the V715w has this behaviors, really, this is the WORST printer I've never see in all my life. Epson and HP are on other planet.

Sorry for my english.

If it's in your faculty, try to forward this mail to Dell support or Lexmark support and hope to have an answer back......

For now, the only way to get the printer working, is to connect via USB cable. Nice goal Lexmark!

Re: V715w Wireless All-In-One Printer owners thread

Massimo,

I only had my Dell V715w Printer for a few weeks. It replaced my Dell 964 printer that was atteached to a Dell wireless print adapter 3300. I moved from my home in July and then I moved again to my new home at the end of October. The Dell 3300 and my Linksys router, both kept their settings. I would think that the Dell V715w printer would also. I just went downstairs and turned off the power strip that I have the Dell V715w plugged into. This will be my simulated power failure. If the power brick works properly, I would think it will remember all the settings when the power comes back on. Will report back later the results.

I had a Lexmark Printer a while back and the print quality was so so. I went to purchase a new laptop and the Dell 964 printer was very cheap, so I purchased it. I found out at a later date that the Dell Printer was made for Dell by Lexmark. The print quality on the Dell 964 and the V715w were better than the previous Lexmark printer I was using. I did learn not to use refilled cartridges. I also learned that it's cheaper to take the pictures somewhere and heave them print them. I do like the scanning features and the printer is used more for homework assignments and some copying of documents. I do not work for Dell but I enjoy helping others get their printers working. I have helped many people get their Windows 7 Non-compatible printers to work with Windows 7. I tried ubuntu a while back and could not get the hang of things. So basically, I have found that Windows works a little better for me. Yes, we use diffferent brand of printers at my work and they all have some type of issues, from time to time. Of course our tech support sometimes works on an issue for a few days, when they can just put the image back on the computer in a short period of time. Everyone has a network folder that is backed up every night, so losing documents is a non issue, unless the people don't use their folders. You know the biggest issue is that people do not make backup copies of files and folders that they cannot afford to lose.

I am going to the printer right now after 15 minutes and will turn power strip back on. Daughter needs printer for homework and I need to leave for work, shortly. The results are...

After 15 minutes, the power came back on, the printer started, went through it's motions and then after it stopped it motions, then blinked orange for a few blinks and then it connected. Will try this when I get off work, when the printer is not needed and see if it fails the test or not.

I work for a local newspaper putting the advertisements into the newspapers.

Rick
