Help with downloading Dell wireless printer software to my netbook (does not have CD drive)
I have a Dell 968 wireless printer that is hooked to my Dell desktop computer. I have a new netbook computer, that does not have a CD drive. Can someoe explain to me where to go on Dell's website to download my printer's software onto my netbook. My warranty for the printer just expired and Dell is requiring me to pay over $100 to perform this which the representative said "will take only a few minutes." Please help!
Thank you!

JLWtanner,
This is a link to the software for your printer. Make sure you get the correct OS version of the software.

JLWtanner,
In addition to what ctalia4000 stated, it you need help with setting up the printer, please post back.
Please tell us the make and model of your computer and operating system. Also state how you're trying to connect the 968 printer to your computer, via USB cable or using the wireless features.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have Windows XP and it gave me the version W7G2, A01. It says it downloaded it, it is saved as a file in My Documents. I go to open and I'm unable to locate how to go forward. It's asking what program to open it in?

JLWtanner,
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer.
Un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
64-bit Drivers
All other drivers
I recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings to get everything to communicate correctly. I have DHCP enabled on my wireless router. I assigned my printer an ip address at the high end of my ip address. (Example: my printer ip address is 192.168.1.149) All the other computer get assigned an ip address automatically.
How Do I Connect a Dell™ Wireless Printer to a Wireless Network
Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.
This can only be installed if you have an external CD/DVD drive.
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
Try using Simple OCR from the internet and it should work.

Re: uninstalling/installing printer software on my comp, I'm assuming you mean on my desktop computer that the printer is currently hooked up to? Then move forward?

Jeremy,
Yes, after you uninstall the printer, then restart your computer before you install the drivers.
