When I opened the box on the new 1250c I got, there was no usb cable to connect the printer to the laptop. Is this something I have to purchase separately, or is this a packing error by Dell?
When you look on the purchasing site for each dell printer:

There is a tab called tech specs. On the bottom of that tab it lists everything that is included in the box:
Dell 1250c Color Printer
Installation Software CD (Printer Driver & Dell Supplies Management Software)
Dell 1250c Ship-With Black Cartridge (700 page yield)
Dell 1250c Ship-With Color Cartridges (700 page yield)
Product Information Guide
Quick Reference Guide (DAO only)
NoM Techsheets (DAO only)
Blue Angel Techsheet (EMEA only)
GS-Mark Techsheet (EMEA only) and Hardware Recycle Program label and instructions
Not including a USB cable is an unfortunate industry standard. HP seldom includes them as well.

The USB cable is a separate part and it will not be included in the box.
