Printer error message
Hi, everyone:
My printer, a Dell 946 (b/w, color, and photo), keeps showing a message that the "right cartridge is missing," meaning that the color ink cartridge is missing, which it isn't. It's in there. I don't think it's a low ink issue, either, since when I try an old color cartridge, which IS low on ink, I get the correct message for that, ie, "ink level low." I've tried a few different times removing the cartridge and snapping it back in, but it keeps giving me the same message, that it's "missing."
Anyone else had this problem and know what to do?
Thank you very much -

celtic.cross,
You can print for a little while with the cartridge low on ink, until the complete-a-print message appears. Your Dell Series 5 Color ink cartridge has a bad sensor in it. Take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement. It does happen from time to time that a cartridge has a bad sensor in it.

I usually purchase my Dell Series 5 ink cartridges from Dell's website. :emotion-5:

celtic.cross,
Let me try to clarify what is happening. People don't realize the proper place to put the photo cartridge. Here is how the Dell Series 5 ink cartridges go in.
Black cartridge = black side(left side) Color cartridge = color side(right side)
Photo Cartridge = black side(left side) Color cartridge = color side(right side)
Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .
Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Hi, Rick:
Thanks for your response! I don't have the photo cartridge in the printer at all. The left slot has a black cartridge, which is working fine, and the right one has a color cartridge. I am still getting the "right cartridge is missing" error message, even though the color cartridge is in (and snapped in properly, as far as I can tell).
However...just now, I switched out the color cartridge I had in the printer and put in an old one to see if that worked - I got the correct message that that old cartridge is low on ink. So, I guess that is better than the incorrect message that the cartridge is missing!
I think I will buy some new cartridges, replace the ones in the printer now, and see if that helps.
Thank you again!
