Problem with scanning & faxing on Dell 2335
Problem with scanning & faxing on Dell 2335 printer, Everything else seems to work fine, but sometimes when we scan or fax a document, the scanner makes a grinding noise & the scan/fax produces a black page. Sometimes this will fix itself, sometimes it is a matter of moving the lock/unlock button back & forth & then eventually it will begin working again. It only occurs when we don't use the sheet feeder.

I believe that the locking mechanism is beginning to fail on your printer and that is causing the scan arm to not fully extend during scans/faxes from the scan bed. You can try a firmware flash since it will have something to do with the operation of the scan arm, but if it is really the lock, that is a hardware failure and I would pursue getting it replaced under your warranty.
