USB printing support can't work properly with USB 3.0

My Dell 1320c printer employs a USD 2.0 type B cable (square plug one end). I attached the other end to one of the two labeled USB 2.0 ports on the back (upper left hand corner) of my new xps 8920 win10. But printer did not work so ran trouble shooter and got the response shown in the subject of this post. Reattached the printer to my other Dell win 10 and the printer works just fine like always. I did a driver update search from the device manager. Says it is working properly and I have the recommended driver. I ran a hardware scan of the printer and it passed. It almost seems to me that the USB 2.0 port on the back of the 8920 may actually be 3.0 but that seems highly unlikely.  Any ideas?
