GMail

I just set up a GMail account for email on a new laptop,  and I can send and receive email fine. But when I tried to email a link form Internet Explorer , I got a popup window to set up an email account. Isn't there a setting in gmail to set for this or do I have to set up an account with user name, password, etc?  i DO NOT WANT TO USE oUTLOOK OR WINDOWS MAIL JUST MY GMAIL ACCOUNT ON THIS COMPUTER.

Re: GMail

IE is more than likely set to open outlook/outlook express as the default mail handler

on IE click on tools>internet options, select the programs tab and under  the email point it to your Gmail program.

Re: GMail

Annie,

You don't have many ways to send a link using Internet Explorer unless you setup an email program. I use Mozilla Thnderbird with my Gmail account. It's like using Outlook Express or Outlook but Outlook Express is not available with Vista and Outlook is a Microsoft Office product. Whenever you try to send a link like that, it will always open what your default email program is.

start, control panel, internet options, programs and set your default programs there. In Vista, right click start, left click properties, left click customize and select from the drop down menu.

Re: GMail

Davet50 and Rick, I am using Vista Premium 64 bit os. I tried your directions and do not see anywhere to select GMail. This should be simple but what am I missing I do not know. Do I have to set up Outlook or Windows Maill for the "File>Send >Link by Email" first for this to work in Internet Explorer? Everytime I try to send a Link by Email from IE, I get the pop up box to establish an email account-user name, password, pop3, smtp, etc.  I also tried Settings in GMAIL. It would seem that there is a setting to allow this but I have not been able to locate any or at least the correct one.

Yes, if you want to use this function, then you have to configure one of these supported email client.

Re: GMail

The possible cause for this issue can be Gmail associated when the user faces trouble while sending and receiving an email, primarily occurs due to improper set up of SMTP.
