Outlook Express login prompt with outgoing mail

My Outlook Express suddenly began demanding that I login to my email account. This only occurs if there is a piece of mail in the outbox; works fine when I am only downloading my mail.

This is a home computer with no network and only one email account. I have never had this prompt before in the three years of using it.

I couldn't find any reference to this on the boards or at Microsoft, so if you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your advise, Allan, but I'm afraid the problem was gone when I turned my system back on this afternoon. You are probably correct when suggesting that the ISP must have changed something... or perhaps was working on something yesterday.

Your outgoing server probably requires authentication and, it's possible your ISP made a change. Go to the Mail account property and look for the Servers tab. Check the box for My Server Requires Authentication and click the Setting button. Check the Log On Using and type your name and password. See if this solves the problem.
