can't install datasafe's new version

There is a new version of Datasafe Online (1.1.0019). Has anyone been able to install it? When I download it and start installing I get the message "error reading setup initialization file".
Anyone knows a work around?
Thanks

turteltaub,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Have you tried uninstalling the older version and then installing the latest?

I am having the same problem.Everytime I switch on the Laptop it tells me that there is Dell DataSafe Online version 1.1.0019 available and would I like to download and install it.When I click "Yes" it downloads and runs it but while trying to install it says "Dell DataSafe Online.msi" file missing. What is wrong?

Is it that ".msi" file is missing? If yes, where can I find it and where do I need to put that file after getting it.

Sorry that I just saw your posting.

I have thought of reinstalling, but I am afraid that if I deinstall I will loose my backup. Do you know if that will happen?

Thanks

uninstallling and reinstalling shouldnt affect ur backup......because all your backup is on the online account with a password.....what u will reinstall is only the software running on your machine.Try that lemme know if it works.

Hopefully the defintion of the backup is also on the backup.

With the previous assumption, I deinstalled it, downloaded to reinstall and got the same error message: "error reading initialization file".

Hello -

I have been unsucessfully trying to install 1.1.0019 as well  but I haven't even gotten past the download part.  I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error from C:\Program Files\Dell DataSafe Online\DataSafeUpdater.exe.

I think I will try to download the installer for this version manually and then install it manually as well.  Now I just need to figure out from where to download it ...

Thanks,
Joe

Hey !

I got this matter resolved by Dell.

1) Uninstall any previous version of Dell DataSafeOnline

2) goto http://www.delldatasafe.com/downloads/datasafe.msi and install it.

Thats all,My Problem was that when I use to update the already existing one or try installing a new one downloaded from the Dell website it wouldnt work.It used to say datasafe.msi file missing.

Thanks to Dell I have the latest DataSafe.

Hope this works for you guys too.

Regards,

Parkar

I was attempting to install DellDataSafeOnline.exe -- for uploading material. Windows Installer gave me the following error: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid." A google search lead me to windows to download the Windows Installer CleanUp tool. I had difficulty installing, but found that in vista, I had to right click and select to run the program as an administrator (even though I am already logged into the administrative account). So-- Thanks to Microsoft, I have successfully installed the uninstalled--- but uninstalled no registry files because I don't want to cause more damage. I'm not having any problems with my microsoft software and do not wish to reinstall any of it. I do not believe I am having trouble with any of my other installs... Still no luck. I'm on Vista... I beleive a 32bit. XPS.. desktop. Please help.

I'm having the same problem...it starts downloading then it says there's an error and stops.  And this happens a lot when trying to update it to this new version...what should we do?

Hello -

You just need to go back in this thread and read my earlier posting ... or another one following it.  Essentially you have to download and run the installer manually.  The download location is https://www.delldatasafe.com/downloads/DellDataSafeOnline.exe https://www.delldatasafe.com/downloads/DellDataSafeOnline.exe .

But the msi at http://www.delldatasafe.com/downloads/datasafe.msi is from late 2007, which is the same date as 1.0.22

Can you run the DataSafeOnlineAutoUpdater.exe on your machine to see what it says? I suspect you're still running version 1.0.22...?

edit: woops, I was wrong. The exe at https://www.delldatasafe.com/downloads/DellDataSafeOnline.exe appears to be newer (2008-11-04)

Thanks

Jimmy
