Upgrade from 610 to 620

I currently have 5 R610s with PERC H700 and am replacing them with 5 R620s with PERC H710.

If I pull the drives from the 610 and place them into the 620 in the same order, will the H710 recognize the configs of the H700 and boot/run as usual?

Hello

Yes, you should be able to migrate disks from an H700 to an H710. It is recommended that both controllers be at the latest firmware before migration. The disks do not need to be in the same slots when they are moved to another system. I don't think we have specific instructions for performing disk migration, but you can check the controller manual. I would reference the manual of the newer controller that you are migrating.

Like any hardware or software change, it is best practice to have a valid tested backup before proceeding. While migration is supported, there is always risk. I would move the disks over while both systems are turned off. If you move the disks while the system is running then it will fail disks, rebuilds will be necessary, and the likelihood of an issue will increase. If you move the disks while both systems are offline then all disks should be available for an import operation.

I suggest reviewing the H710 manual sections regarding disk migration and foreign configuration.
