How to use Analyzer to estimate data change rate per second for journal sizing

Dear all Bros,

I am new to EMC analyzer. Our company have virtualized the SQL Server in delicated VM datastore. I have enabled the analyzer logging for a week.

I have obtained stats from this LUN. By RP manual, there is an important parameter - data change rate per second in journal sizing formula.

I am not sure which metric in Analyzer is corresponded to this data change rate.

Bandwidth MB /sec can be used or not?

thanks,

Mike

There is a metric in analyzer for writes MB/s, this will give you the worst case change rate as analyzer will capture the bandwidth even if the same block is changing over and over. Recoverpoint being async may not capture all these writes. This is why I say this is the worst case.

You will want to parse the analyzer data for the write rate, in MB/sec. You may need to combine Write IOs with Block Size to get this value. From your email it sounds like you are using the sizing formula on page 34 of the RecoverPoint Administrators Guide. This should give you a reasonable answer to the sizing question.
