Splitters are not communicating with ISCSI network on ESX Host.

Hi All,

I have two ESX 5.5 u2 nodes ; I have installed and configured RecoveryPoint for VM 4.3.

I have only one virtual switch named vSwitch0 on all ESX host. I configured ISCS1, ISCS2 VMKernel adapter on all vSwitch0.

ESX Host 1 (ISCSI 1) = 10.10.10.1 / 255.255.255.0

ESX Host 1 (ISCSI 2) = 10.10.10.2 / 255.255.255.0

ESX Host 2 (ISCSI 1) = 10.10.10.3 / 255.255.255.0

ESX Host 2 (ISCSI 2) = 10.10.10.4 / 255.255.255.0

I configured vmnic0 = active, vmnic1=unused for ISCSI 1, I configured vmnic1 = active, vmnic0=unused for ISCSI 2. You can see following pictures.

network 1.jpg

I configured All ISCSI Adapters port binding for all esx host like following picture ;

network_2.png

I configred RPA ISCSI IP addresses like following picture ;

network 3.png

  • Splitter installation is successfully.
  • RPA installation is successfully.
  • Cluster installation with Deployment Wizard is successfully..

I can't see any devices and path under ISCSI Software adapter...

I used ping command "ping -I eth2 ( or eth3 ) 10.10.10.1". But I could not ping any IP Addresses of all ISCSI network.

What is wrong ?!!!

Thanks.

Hi Yilmaz,

From your description everything seems in order, but have you verified that the vRPA iSCSI interfaces are mapped to the proper vswitche and vLAN? If you are not able to ping -I eth2/3 then that tells me there is something wrong there. Try to ping the other vRPA or the 2nd iSCSI interface on the vRPA instead of the VMKs.

Thanks, Zahid

hi fadliz,

I could not ping ISCSI interfaces from vRPA1 and vRPA2. I removed and reinstalled splitters and vRPA.But, nothing has changed.

Thanks

Have you configured the IP addresses used for the iSCSI software adapters on the ESXi hosts on the same subnet as the vRPA iSCSI addresses?

Hi forshr,

Yes, you can see details above. I configured IP addresses used for the iSCSI software adapters on the ESXi hosts on the same subnet.

Thanks

Can you verify that the vmkernel ports being used for the software iSCSI adapter are setup without NIC teaming plus also ensure the MTU settings are uniformly set..

Hi,

I solved the problem.VLAN ID has been defined on the virtual machine port group used for ISCSI adapter.I removed VLAN ID. It is working now.

Thanks for your helps.

Typical that this was the one thing I forgot to mention by way of verification! Thanks for getting back to confirm what the issue was as it's important for the community.
