Hitachi HDS Storage Array with Recoverpoint using Brocade SAS

Looking for any documentation or specific settings or tweeks for a deployment involving

Hitachi HDS Storage

Brocade SAS

RecoverPoint.3.3. sp2 on Gen 1 hardware

Specifically port settings on the Hitachi that connect to the RPAs

How to properly add multiple Hitachi Arrays so that RP sees them correctly (We tried doing 3 separate arrays all at once, zoned the same way and it said it couldn't b/c the port contained initiator and target ports)  Once we removed the other 2 arrays it was able to continue the deployment.  Now we need to add the other 2 arrays back.

Need more specific info on setting up or verifying the settings are correct on the Hitachi array to work properly with RP.

thanks

Yes, Port 1 and Port 3 are the ports being used as initiators on the RPAs.

Ports 0 and 2 as targets

So we zoned Port 3 with the Hitachi ports on each array the same way

And we seen that error during the deployment.

Once we removed the other Port3 zones to the other 2 arrays and left just the Port3 rpa and 1 storage array it took.

So your saying it’s a zoning issue.

To clarify.

RPA ports 1 and 3 (initiators) zoned to the Hitachi array.

RPA ports 0 and 2 should be zoned where? Or that is what gets configured when running the /thirdparty/recoverpoing/install/zoning_script.sh? (RPA target zone) and also the RPA Front End One.

Hi Arichichi,

the issue with initiator and target together is not an HDS issue but general. Gen1 RPA have an older HBA card that requires to separate RPA ports to 2 zone groups: initiators and targets. that means that half the ports used should be zoned only with storage port (and will therefore be used as initiators) and the other half zoned only with initiators (in your case I assume it will be the Brocade initiator, and by that become targets only).

once that is done, you should have no problem zoning and masking all 3 HDS arrays to RP.

hope this helps. if so, please mark this as 'answered' for closure.

Can’t touch the array for a couple of days

I thought it might be a zoning issue as you did not specify the seperation in the initial post, but from this it seems like you zoned correctly.

what happens if you add the other port3 zones after deplyment is done? do you still get this error?

Just thought of another thing: is the HDS array a TagmaStor (USP)? is it possible that for some reason its ports turn on initiator mode, which in turn causes RP to see the target ports as initiators as well?
