SAP CCR System Benchmark for Flash (highlight XtremIO advantages)

Hi Team,

In Switzerland an account team is discussing with a customer to set a baseline/target comparison of performance in SAP when going from a hybrid array solution to an AFA, and we need to define a measure. Besides having the array numbers (response time), we would like additionally to measure on application level as well. For this we have the Early Watch Report, and here I need your help: What number should we go for, DB times?

Customer is considering XtremIO. (Today DB is runing on VMAX)

Thank you,

David

Hi David,

I recommend using DB_time from transaction ST03N as a first and specific measure. Additionally, you can use critical job run times in SM37 before and after.

Please find additionally information here

David,

XtremIO offers 2 very important benefits for SAP.  DB response is only one.  The other is the reduction in the duplication of the massive business data that is copied to SAP test systems (QA, Stress, Pr-Prod).  XtremIO does forced always on data dedupe so while today they may have 2-5 copies of production data, with XtremIO most of this is deduped by design for each and every production database on XtremIO (Typically 4-10 SAP modules).  The total storage used for SAP test systems that are copies of production should be calculated before and after XtremIO.

For the Earlywatch for the performance side, sections 7 the Workload and 8 for Performance especially 8.2.1, the DB time as a percentage of the total response time should be reduced.  Note that each business week is unique so this week to last week is not a great compare.  A month end to a month end is a better compare but be careful as a quarter close month end may be different then a non-quarter close month end.  So be careful to get 4-5 weeks of earlywatch before changes are made and compare to the comparable earlywatch weeks after.

For Oracle Section 12.3 with wait times is interesting but does not speak in business terms as do the items in Section 8 that shows actual batch and online transaction times.

David,

just as DocAllan mentioned,  XtremIO not only provided the better performance for SAP system , but also provide snapshot functionality to simplify the customer SAP landscape, fast development cycle and reduce customer TCO. you could refer EMC XtermIO all flash array for SAP whitepaper to get more information. EMC XtremIO: All-flash Storage for SAP

the new XtermIO for SAP customer presentation would be launch by the end of March.

Regarding the SAP performance improvement, you could check the average database response time, the total background jobs runtime,  in SAP earlywatch alert report , depends on your database, if the customer database is oracle, you could use oracle performance KPI to compare the performance improvement.
