ESX SDC in a Linux ScaleIO environment ?

I've just installed a non productive ScaleIO community edition on 4 linux nodes to perform some tests.

The ScaleIO cluster is up and running, and now I would like to add an ESX 6.0 client as a ScaleIO SDC. I dont't have a VCenter installed just for my single ESX node.

Would it be possible to install the ScaleIO SDC on a standalone ESX node without using VCenter and the ScaleIO plug-in ?

If yes, how can I perform this installation ?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Daniel,

You can use any GUID, as long as it is unique. I have pointed customers to here in the past: Online UUID Generator Tool

Hope that helps,

Rick

Hi dhz,

Yes, it is possible - you simply need to install the SDC VIB, reboot the ESXi host, configure some SDC parameters and load the module (or reboot again).

Please refer to ScaleIO Deployment Guide - it should come with the software package, check out "Installing the SDC directly on an ESX host" section (page 163 in my copy) - that should guide you step by step.

Let me know if you're stuck!

Cheers,

Pawel

Hi Pawel,

Thanks for your quick answer. I found the procedure on page 170 in my manual.

After rebooting the ESX host I've to update de the SDC parameters with the command :

esxcli system module parameters set -m scini -p

"IoctlIniGuidStr= IoctlMdmIPStr= "

Where can I find the GUID for my new client ?

Regards

Daniel
