Differences and which version should be installed?
Good day to all, I was wondering if anybody can shed some light regarding how the following versions differ from each other, when/where to use them, what should be installed as a best practice.
- EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS) Gateway
- EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS) single product
- EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS) IP Client
- EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS) Virtual Edition
Same thing with the PM, what is the difference between these two and what version goes with the above mentioned ESRS products.
- Secure Remote Services Policy Manager 6.6
- Secure Remote Services Policy Manager 2.X
I'd hate to continue to install the 2.X ESRS GW knowing that it iwll reach its EOL cycle.
Thank you so much !!!

hello, please find below table.
No server required.
(VNX Dual CS supports high availability)
(no other devices).
(NOT supported for Linux)
(next gen for ESRS v2)
(ESRS v3 is next gen version)
same as ESRS v2
Policy Manager 2.x is previous version for policy manager so please leverage Policy Manager 6.6 and also both PM version has compatibility for all the ESRS solutions above (ESRS v2, v3(VE), IP Client for VNX, device client).
Customer does not require IA OS for ESRS VE while Policy manager is optional software in order to audit EMC access and manage remote access from EMC and VE does not support co-located Policy Manager on ESRS VE server.
Please see follow the step below and find your smilar case as customer requested.
1. Deployed device: Multiple storages (VMAX, Connectirx, DataDomain,...etc)
--> ESRS GW(v2 or v3).
2. Deployed device: VNX only.
-->3 solutions (ESRS IP Client for VNX, ESRS GW(v3) or device client).
3. Deployed device: Only device client device (VNXe, VMAX or XtreamIO).
-->2 solutions (ESRS GW or Device client)
Again, both PM2.x and ESRS GW(v2) are previous version so please leveage ESRS v3 (VE), Policy Manager 6.6, ESRS IP Client for VNX and device client.

CTTO - if you tell me a little about your environment, I can offer a recommendation. Generally speaking, unless you have one or two VNX or VNXe arrays, ESRS v3 is the way to go (if you've got a virtual environment). New products will not be backwards compatible with other ESRS versions and this option (ESRS v3) is receiving a lot of attention internally as the basis to build new proactive services.
