Polling and thresholds editing disabled

Hi,

How can I enable Polling and thresholds editing for INCHARGE-AM and INCHARGE-PM?

Hi Knakawa,

If Polling and Thresholds are disabled, it is most likely one of two things:

1.) The user you are attaching to the Smarts IP domain with does not have sufficient privileges, This username is configured in the serverConnect.conf file. Please see KB article here for more information on updating this file:

https://support.emc.com/kb/15908 - Smarts IP/Smarts SAM: How do I create a new user login?

2.) You are using the Smarts IP Configuration Manager feature to apply a consistent set of polling and threshold settings to all target domains in the Smarts IP environment.

Please see KB article here:

https://support.emc.com/kb/189763 - Smarts IP 9.3 and later: What is the Smarts IP Configuration Manager? How to apply polling and threshold settings to target domains using a Configuration Manager import file in Smarts IP 9.3 and later.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Kind Regards,

Paul O'Rourke

Hi Paul,

we are using LDAP for authentication and it is configured for Admin access as I don't think my username will show in serverConnect.conf

Regard the second article it doesn't talk about disabled polling and threshold.

Also INCHARGE-AM and PM have a note

"Edit this domain's in its configuration manager: INCHARGE-CONFMGR"

So I went to iNCHARGE-CONFMGR and I can see that it is enabled for modification. I tried to add a test group on it then "reconfigure" but I still don't see that group pushed to INCHARGE-AM or INCHARGE-PM

any ideas?

Hi knakawa,

The reason the Polling and Thresholds is disabled is that you are using the Smarts IP Configuration Manager to handle Polling and Thresholds configuration and keep the setting uniform across multiple domains as mentioned in KB 189763 above.

You need to update the Polling and Thresholds in the Configuration Manager and push to the underlying domains.

If you are not seeing these new groups created, please see KB articles here:

https://support.emc.com/kb/176219 - Smarts IP Manager 9.2.1/9.2.2: How to create custom Polling and Threshold groups in Configuration Manager, and have them successfully propagate to a receiving Smarts IP Manager domain.

https://support.emc.com/kb/187731 - Smarts IP: Interface Group created in Configuration Manager will not push to IP domain; Error: MR-PROPERTY_NOT_FOUND-Specified property 'InstrumentEntityManager' not found in class

https://support.emc.com/kb/197017 - Smarts IP Configuration Manager not pushing the ProcessorUtilizationAlertMode drop down changes to IP domains

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Kind Regards,

Paul O'Rourke

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your help. Your answer was in the right direction. We also noticed that the configuration manager was in the same IP folder of a test INCHARGE-AM. moving it to a seperate folder resolved the issue and we managed to register it with the production domains.
