Windows 7 64 bit

Hi,

Does anyone had any problem to use Smarts Console with Windows 7 64 bits?

I tried every thing:

- Ionix 7, 8 and 9 with and without patches;

- Install with compability modes;

- Run with compability modes;

- Different jre versions instead of the one shiped with the software;

- And obviously, opened a SR to EMC.

Hello Gabriel,

Per knowledge base article emc288279, ITOI does not provide a 64-bit version of the SAM console on any platform. There is only a 32-bit version that can run on a 64-bit operating system.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Regards,

Joseph

Hello Joseph

Yes, I know.

That's one of the reasons why I tried various compatibility modes (XP, etc).

Even installed a Windows XP under a VMWare Server on my desktop for testing pruposes and the same problem happens.

The problem is: Smarts Console opens for a few seconds, I can browse the alarms, then the console hangs.

The same behaviour can be observed when logging to any domain (SAM or IP) or openning a topology browser instead of notification log.

Hi Gabriel,

In SAM 8.1.3.2 and 9.0.0.2, console installation/compatibility issues on Win7 32-bit, 64-bit OS are addressed.
Pg.9 of HF2, SAM 9.0 and pg.12 of HF2, SAM 8.1.3 has the details.
Can you install anyone of above suites to check if you run into this kind of issues.

Regards,
Natya.

Hello Gabriel,

I see that you've tested different operating systems and versions you mentioned in your last post.  It appears that you may be dealing with a java heap size issue.  Have you tried increasing your java heap size?  If no, knowledge base article emc273741 shows you how to increase the Java heap size.

Joseph

Hello,

I didn't had tried to raise heapsize until you said.

But it didn't worked.

I also enabled the debug options for the console and no error was printed out on local logs and remote servers logs. ( sm_gui.exe -Dcom.smarts.log.level=TRACE -Dcom.smarts.java.log=javaLog.txt -Dcom.smarts.debugConnection=true)

Hello Gabriel,

You previously mentioned that you opended opened an SR for your issue.  Could you provide me with the SR number?

Joseph

Hello Joseph,

I could not find the SR at PowerLink.

I don't know if it is because the SR is too OLD or because my profile was changed.

Having same issues, installs on Windows 7 x64 are hit or miss. Trying to install Console version 9.1.0.0 and several machines are not working.
