IE 8 support for EmailXtender 4.8 SP1 - Web Search supported?

First off - is IE8 supported for EmailXtender (Web Search)?  Tech and Documentation don't say it isn't but ...

We have created an internal certificate and the common name is tied to the DNS alias we used for accessing this URL (https:\\emailxtender\emailxtender).  When I access using IE8 the logon (User Authentication) page does not login and I get the following error

Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; .NET4.0C)

Message: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission x.x.x.x:1208 connect,resolve)

Char: 8
Code: 0
URI: https://emailxtender/emailxtender/en/default.ASP

However if I use the server name (https:\\SERVERNAME\emailxtender I don't have any issue???

Solution to my issue

By default when you create an alias (CNAME) DNS entry a PTR record is not created as is the case when you create an A record.  However, the JAVA applet is looking to do a reverse name lookup and without a PTR record fails.  Thus the alias URL failed but the server name (which was an A record and had a PTR record) URL worked fine.

I created a static PTR record for the CNAME entry and it works fine now.

Tech support also informed me that IE8 was NOT supported.
