Hi,

MDSM is planned to be used with MD3xxx products because they have a raid controller embedded.
Your MD1000 is a JBOD, with EMM but without RAID controllers

If your MD1000 is connected to a server with an RAID controller with external connector (PERC H8xx like), you need to go to the bios of this server RAID controller to create/manage your RAID or install OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) to do it under OS environment.

If your MD1000 is connected to a MD3000 in chain, you can use MDSM to manage the disk of MD1000 through to MD3000 raid controllers management .
