Bluray playback is choppy!

  Hi all,

I received my new Alienware Area-51 Desktop in the mail yesterday and wanted to test out the bluray player included.  The first bluray i watched, the screen got choppy every 20 seconds or so and lasted about 3 seconds.  At first i thought it might be the disk but it does the same thing for every bluray.

When i say choppy i mean video & audio.  I am using Cyberlink Powerdvd 8 ultra with bluray support.  This is the program that was included with the PC.  I also downloaded the update on cyberlinks website but to no avail.  Please help!!

Thanks,

Sami Akel

Hi, sakel86:

We have seen this caused by Dell DataSafe. If that came with your system, please try disabling it.

Nope, that does not seem to be the problem.  Data Safe is not active in the background.  I went into task manager and could not locate it, unless it is called something different in task manager...

I have heard about this problem with the alienware notebooks too such as m15x etc.   Has anyone figured a solution to resolve this problem??

Sakel, the solution is all over the forums. Do a search for it. You have to delete Dell data safe. I took it off my computer so I can't tell you the exact name of the program but that is close. Go to add/remove and remove the program.

Next dl the trail version of Power DVD 9 and install it. Then go to the realtek sight and dl and install the drivers of HDMI from their site.

Then see if you can play your movie.

Make a restore point before you start playing around with this.

It worked for me.

I Had the same problem, on my XPS 8100 was fuming when my blu rays didnt play right, things i did to correct the problem

1, Installed latest firmware update for the blu ray drive, Dell Support-drivers-enter service tag the click on cd/dvd then select your drive, the new firmware increases read speed from 6x upto 8x

2, Uninstalled dell data safe from add/remove programmes in control panel, all three parts, tried my Blu ray gain and works perfect

hope this helps other people with the same problem i know how frustrating it can be lol

Hi, PYP, thanks for your post. This solution works for me. Not sure about the firmware update as it initially made the playback much worse. Though the playback resumed normal after I have completed uninstalled Dell Datasafe.

I had gone through all the frustration through Dell bundled PowerDVD DX, to purchased PowerDVD 10 Ultra. Finally the Blu-ray disc works:-)
