Cannot burn a CD-R In Drive D nor CD-RW in drive E despite changing various discs. However can read or play music.

I have tried updating drives, changing discs, Tried  the F12 Diagnostic which I cannot access.  However I can download files to a Western Digital or flash drive with no problem.  Just can' t  download Data to a recordable disc in Drives D and E.

Look in the Device Manager..........

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Post the brand and model of the drives.

Please describe how you are trying to write to a disc.  Are you getting an error
message?

Samsung CD-R/RW SW 252S ( in Drive E)   Error: Drive not accessible, incorrect function.

Samsung DVD-Rom SD 616 E  (in Drive D)  Error: There is no disc in drive. Insert a writable CD into drive

I am using Sonic Burn CD/DVD with record now.

I have deleted and reinstalled these drivers and also deleted and reinstalled the Sonic Burn program.  Still the same response.

Thank you for your interest in this subject.

The SD616E is a DVD-ROM and is not capable of writing to
CD media: it can only read them.

The SW252S is the writing drive.  In My Computer, right-click
the E drive and select Properties.  Then select the Recording tab.
Is the box for Enable CD Recording on this Drive have a checkmark?

Yes it is checked.  The source of files is marked from C drive.

However, I took the time to uncheck, apply, and hit ok.

Then I checked it again, applied and hit ok.

To find out if we are making progress, I tested two ways to get a copied disc.

Good news!!

I now have a drive E Window which I previously did not have.  I can go from My Documents, copy to Drive E Window, and make a copy on disc..

Bad news!!

I still cannot use the Sonic Record Now program which says -a suitable drive is not detected.

Thanks for all your clues!!   It looks like the problems in Sonic.

You have established that the Windows built-in burning software
now works and that the drive is OK.  You are correct, Sonic is
your problem.  You could go to the Roxio Forum (Sonic is Roxio)
and see if they may be able to help out.
