D Drive DVD

My D Drive on my Dell laptop has disappeared so I can't play/burn CDs anymore.  I have run all the checks I can find.  There is an error with the D drive but it seems it can't be fixed automatically.  Any ideas?

Hi Keepingupjones,

Please try the upper and lower filter trick (link below). If the MS Fix-it utility is unable to fix the problem, then follow the manual registry edit procedure.

If neither of those approaches works, then please run the Dell diagnostics on your DVD drive.

Thanks ever so much for the fix, worked a treat.

Any ideas what went wrong so I can avoid doing it again?!

It's one of those registry quirks. Probably not your fault.
