D630 replaced sata hard drive from hitachi to WesternDigital trying to set hard drive password "the new password is unacceptable"

I was upgraded to a faster 7.2k bigger hard drive. Installed Windows without any issues and all my programs. I went to set my hard drive password in bios and I get  "the new password is unacceptable" message. I have tried lower case, uppercase, numbers. Nothing has worked. I have tried updating the bios which was one version older and it still hasn't helped. Same message. I have called Dell and WesternDigital tech support non of them have a clue why it is saying that. I have googled and googled and cant find a solution.

thanks

I believe this is a WD issue. I just replaced a bad SATA drive on my inspiron notebook. I was able to set the password on the old drive without a problem, but

get the same error as you on the replacement drive (same type).

Re: D630 replaced sata hard drive from hitachi to WesternDigital trying to set hard drive password "the new password is unacceptable"

I'm thinking about replaceing the HArd drive in a Dell D630, probably upgrading toa larger or faster HArd Drive,  I will probably selected one from the

Dell Update and upgrade web site, and repalce it my self.

heres mmy question:

I have the Windows XP Disk that came with the Dell Referbished D630 (off lease ) computer.  Is there any special steps I should follow in oder to get the Compoents Software drivers re-installed on the computer?  Other than just connecting to the Internet and down loading them?

 Hello,

There are a couple of ways through which the drivers can be installed.
1. Drivers and Utility disks.
2. Downloading the drivers from Support site and installing them.

If you have the drivers and utility disk, you can install them directly from the disk.
In case you do not have the Drivers disk for the computer, refer to the link mentioned below to download and install the drivers.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection
-- Enter the System Service Tag.
-- Choose the Operating System as Windows XP.
-- Download and install the Drivers.

Please ensure the order in which the drivers are to be installed is correct.
The link mentioned below would give the correct order in which the drivers should be installed.

Hello Computer-Geek,

Please refer to the service manual for replacing the hard drive. Once replaced, if you have the Operating System disk, install the operating system on the new hard drive. Please ensure to install the drivers in the correct order after installing the operating system. You can find the drivers for Latitude D630 in the Drivers and Download section.

**Note: If the computer boots to windows with the old hard drive, try backing up all the data before replacing the hard drive.
Hope this helps!

Thanks & Regards

Re: D630 replaced sata hard drive from hitachi to WesternDigital trying to set hard drive password "the new password is unacceptable"

Thanks for your Reply Dell-Allen D, I think what yoursaying is after the replacement of the Hard Drive, I will reinstall the WINDOWS XP O/S , then be able to go on line with the PC, and down load the needed Drivers sucessfully.

If that is not what you intended to state in your answer please correct me, other wise I will proceed with the HDD Replacement.

Thanks again.,

Hello Computer-Geek,

That is correct. After replacing the hard drive, re-install the operating system. Post re-installation, install the drivers from the Dell Drivers and Download link provided in my previous post. Please ensure to install the drivers in the correct order.
