DELL Insiprion 9400: Can not start
Hi,
I have a dell inspirion 9400 running on XP Professional. Since last week it is unable to start.
I ran the dell diagnostic tool. All diagnostic tests ran successfully except except some Hard disk (SATA Samsung hard disk) tests.
Below tests failed:
- The S.M.A.R.T. test failed with error "IDE Device failure"
- The Read Test and the Verify test failed with error "unable to read / media is write protected".
Can you please suggest me further actions?

At present I have "120GB (5400 rpm) SATA Hard Drive". Will the below one will be compatible with my Inspirion 9400?
"160 GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive for Select Dell Latitude D-Family/ E-Family / Inspiron / Studio / Vostro Laptops / Precision Mobile WorkStations / Studio Hybrid Desktops"

The hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. Any 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive can be used as a replacement.
