My DVD drive won't open when I press the manual button. Is there software that could fix this?

Most drives have a small round hole in the front to manually release the tray. You can try that and many times once you do that it will work OK. Otherwise buy a new drive as they are relatively inexpensive.
That drive is a DVD ROM, IDE (PATA) interface type. HERE is a new Samsung CD/DVD burner drive for $20.99 from newegg.com (where I buy most of my computer parts).
