DVD stopped working on my Dell XPS 420

The DVD-R drive stopped working on my Dell XPS 420 a couple of days ago. I'm assuming this was caused by a Windows Vista update (only change that has occured on my system recently and is in the same time frame that the DVD drive stopped working).

I went to the "Computer->manage->event viewer->Summary of Administrative events->error" window and a recent (last day or so) error is listed numerous times as a "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider" error # 7026 (again, I am assuming this is related to losing my DVD drive because of the "cdrom" field in the error message:

Log Name:      System

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get my DVD drive working again (it no longer appears in the Vista Computer folder, forgot to mention that) ?

Hi, Willy:

The solution to a missing drive is to delete the upper and lower filters by following the article in the CD/DVD FAQ under "code 39 error in Vista".

By the way, all of that computer gobbledygook has nothing to do with this problem. :emotion-1:
