i purchased a Dell Studio Laptop now.
But in switch off condition when i am pressing the Dell Media Direct button it is booting the Operating system in stead of invoking Dell Media Direct.
I had a Inspiron laptopn in which when Media Direct button was pressed, only Media Direct was opening.but in this new Laptop it is booting the Vista Operating system. But after operating system is booted , when i press the Media Direct button, the Media Direct application is opening like any other application. But it is not getting invoked in switch off condition.
I think this is what dell went to with the newer laptops.Instead of having a seperate media direct partition(opening without windows)it uses windows to open now.
Can someone else chime in to confirm this .

Its true, in studio laptops you don't have a separate partition for Media Direct. In studio laptops media direct is installed just like any other software.
So the only way to run media direct is to press the media control button for media direct while working in operating system itself.
" Chime "
You are correct, Older laptops with Media direct 3.x had 4 partitions of which one was a hidden (non vista)OS that could run as a DVD player if called from 'cold'
Your Studio will have 3 partitions, a small (c130MB) hidden Dell utilities partition, a big C drive and about 10GB of Dell recovery image partition. Media direct 4.0 is just a windows program "not entirely dissimilar to Cyberlink power cinema with Dell Branding". . . . .the good news is it can be uninstalled without re-building the system :-)... the bad news is you have to play DVD's in Vista (but can use Windows Media Center if you prefer that) and therefore the battery life is less.
ps disagree slightly with post above I just now seen ;-) Pressing Media direct when did seem to work for me when shut down . . but only in so much as it started vista for me . . .
I have used my Inspiron Dell about 3 years. Last week, when I open it as usual, it screen appeared was DELL MEDIA DIRECT which when I was click it, my computer are going to shut down.
Why this happen? I really need to solve it, I cant live without my dellio.
Plz reply this ASAP.
