Dimension 8300 will not recognize my dvd cd rom after reinstallilng xp
We had our computer "crash" so we needed to format our hard drive and reinstall our XP. Now though our computer will not recognize our dvd drive. Any suggesions or help would be greatly appreiciated. I can not go online with the desktop because I have to first install the setup disk for the online using the cd/dvd drive that isn't recognized.

Hi, Elev mom:
When you say "will not recognize our DVD drive", is there a drive letter for your DVD there or is it missing? Can you check if the drive is recognized in the BIOS?

Hi osprey4,
I cannot find the drive or a letter. In the BIOS under Boot Sequence the CD-ROM device is checked but says (not installed). Is there somewhere else to look for it? There's power going to the dvd rom and will open and close but that's it. Any other ideas? Thank you!

After trying the BIOS again we figured it out. Thank you sooo much for your help! We probably wouldn't have figured it out and have taken it in.
