Does my Dimension 4700 support SATA 2
I've searched far and wide and haven't come up with anything.
From the motherboard pictures I've found that the 4700 utilizes, it only shows the two SATA connectors labeled as SATA-0 and SATA-2. I'm fairly sure this only designates the two connections in terms of how they are labeled for reading in the system BIOS.
No where in the manual does it say anything about the board supporting SATA 2.
Just wondering if I can remove the jumper on a new 250G Seagate that supports 3.0.
TIA,
Nick

Thanks so much for the quick response.
So in otherwords, the drive will work fine, however, I will not be able to utilze the 3.0m/s trasfer speed that the drive is capable of?
I just wanted to make sure before I open up my tower to remove the jumper on the back of the new HDD.

The drive should work fine, I'm using SATA 2, hard drives in Dell 8400 SATA 1 system without a problem.
Note: The Interface may be 100/133/150/300 MBPS capable, but no single 7200rpm hard drive can deliver more than about 66 MBPS sustained, no matter what the interface is.
Even the fastest SATA drives [10,000rpm WDC Raptors] can only deliver about 70 MBPS maximum.

The 4700 supports SATA 1 But, SATA 2 hard drives can be installed, as they are backwards compatible to SATA 1.
The motherboard SATA-0 port is for the 'Master' C:/ boot hard drive and SATA-2 is for a second hard drive.
