Dvd drive ejecting dvds after they are put in

Hey everyone,

My dad bought his Alienware M17x R4 in august of 2012. About the same time the following year it wont play games for more than 5 mins so he puts it in the shop cuz his warranty had just run out and we find out its his video card so instead of having the nvidia put in he has a radeon 7970m in and i had tested it and everything gaming wise works and i gave it back to him cuz hes a over the road truck driver and just left 2 days ago and he just tells me his dvd drive is ejecting dvds right after they go in.

sorry if most of this is irrelevant but wanted to post what had been done incase the tech screwed up when it was in the shop.

Hi Pushyjoker,

It is not likely that the DVD problems are related to the video card. What I want you to do is to test the drive using the Dell diagnostics.

To test your CD/DVD drive from the utility partition:
1. Reboot your system. When you see the Dell logo, hit F12 to enter the boot menu.
2. Select Boot to utility partition or Diagnostics.
3. Select Test System.
4. Select Custom Test.
5. Use the arrow keys or mouse to select your CD/DVD drive.
6. Insert a CD or DVD. Try both.
7. Click Run Tests.
8. Write down any error messages.
