Flash drives not recognized
When I plug in a SanDisk Cruzer 8GB flash drive on my Dimension 8400 I receive an error message “USB device not recognized, one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it”. I also get the same error message when I connect a Canon Powershot camera; both of the devices have worked in the past, the mouse, keyboard, and printer are USB and they function correctly. A Kingston flash drive works fine. The SanDisk also works fine in my Dell Dimension 2400 therefore it has to be a computer configuration or software problem. The light on the SanDisk does not illuminate and it will not show up in the device manager. I have tried to delete the device in the manager when it shows up as an “unknown device” under imaging devices but did not help; all the other devices state that they are working properly even the camera when it shows temporarily (but I can not access it or load photos). I have also tried different ports but to no avail (same with camera). I have seen numerous entries on your forum about this issue so it is a common problem that has been around for a long time but no definite fix. Have you found a fix for this problem with out re-installing XP? I read where several people updated the BIOS and that did not help. Your help with this problem would be greatly appreciated I can not use my camera any more, thank you.

This issue can be caused if any of the following situations exist: The currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupt. Your PC requires an update for issues that may conflict with a USB external hard drive and Windows. Windows may be missing other important updates hardware or software issues.
