Full capacity/Size of new hard drive not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 laptop.

I purchased the Apricorn EZ Upgrade Universal Upgrade kit and a new WD 320GB 7200 RPM hard drive from the Dell site to clone the old 5400 RPM hard drive. The clone didn't work (because I think the old hard drive failed during the cloning process, maybe??). So I put the new drive into the laptop and reinstalled the system using the system discs from Dell, but the new 7200 RPM hard drive is showing up as about 54 or 57GB, not it's full 320GB. I believe the old hard drive (which failed) was about 55GB or 60GB.

How do I tell the new drive that it's size is really 320GB? Thanks for any help you can give to me.

My guess is that during the clone only 60GB was formatted since that is the size of your original hard drive.

When you do a complete reinstall of Windows, there should be a step where you can delete the partition(s) on the hard drive and then do a format before going forward.
