Get the 'Blue Screen of Death' when burning cd's or dvd's

My DVD+RW quit reading cds/dvds on my Inspiron E1705 so I bought a new drive from Dell.  It is an Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5560A.  I am running Windows XP.

I have experienced on many occasions the dreaded Blue Screen of death since installing this while attempting to write to new CDs or DVDs. This usually happens when the disc is being written to and I attempt to do something else on the laptop.  Also, the music CDs that I burn will only burn about 7 tracks that are available to be read by any cd player.  The DVDs that I burn will stop playing at some point during play. This drive has been very disappointing.  I have tried to uninstall and install again but have been unsuccessful.  Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated!!!  If more information is needed please advise.
