Help! Travel drive not found, and DVD is listed as e: instead of d:
Continuing to work on my PC since it crashed Nov 21, I installed a new hard drive, and was
finally in the process of getting windows updates, when a driver was not found, and so I followed the directions to do a windows repair.
The repair stopped at:
The file igfxext.exe on Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver is needed.
Type the path where the file is located, and chen click OK.
I couldn't find the file anywhere, but I finally found the driver on an Intel web site, and saved it to a travel drive.
NOW the problem is that my computer doesn't read the travel drive:
My Computer lists:
3 1/2" floppy a:
local disk c:
DSK1_VOL2 d: What is THIS?
XPSP1a_ENG_PRO e: This should be the d: drive.

How do I get the computer to read the travel drive?

Hi Nas,
Lets try Clearing the NVRAM and see if this corrects the problem. Please click on the Cd/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 11, article 2.
Merry Christmas !

Hi Nancy,
I am sorry, I should have asked this first; when you installed Windows XP, do you recall installing the Chipset drivers next?
These are required for your hardware detection and for them to run properly.
Merry Christmas !

Hi Nancy,
I guess if it was mine, I would give the reinstall of Windows XP one last shot. (sorry, sort of easy for me to say but if you have your data backed up already, this may be one of the better options)
Have you posted on the Dimension-Hard drive board yet and asked about a "clean" install of Windows XP? I believe our Regulars over there have some excellent articles with very good tips on a successfull install on a new hard drive?
Merry Christmas !

Please let me send Bev a note, she is one of our best dealing with hard drives, OS reinstalls and such. She may just work you thread here where you have already supplied a good deal of information. I believe you would be better served in her hands than mine on this subject.
(Edit): I just noticed that June over in the Windows XP conference mentioned she believed the igfext.exe file is related to video card driver but if you are stuck in the repair loop, may be hard to get there. Hopefully Bev will be able to sort this out..no pressure Bev ;) !!
Best Wishes,
Jeff
