How do I upgrade my Dimension C521 hard drive from 250g with recovery partition to 128g ssd
My dimension c521 running Vista does not have the connectors included to fit another hard drive and I would like to keep the cd/dvd drive so the SSD drive would have to be a direct replacement for the existing hard drive. Is this possible, and if so how would I do this?

Hi Magflash,
The easiest option is to clone your old drive. Connect the SSD to the SATA port where the DVD is, use your cloning software to make the copy, and then move the SSD to the other port and reconnect the DVD drive.

You may need an external USB adapter to do this - cloning software usually requires booting the system from external media (which usually means a DVD).

Ok, so I need an external cd/dvd player, or can I copy the cloning software on to a usb flash drive then boot from that?

How does the cloning software work. If it is on a cd then at this point I have removed the cd/dvd drive, or am I misunderstanding?
