How to burn a DVD-R 16x - 4.7gb - 120min disk
I previously thought I had a problem burning DVD/CD's. I do and I don't. Anyway, I have two different format and I'm not sure how to use one of them. I am using the brand name Memorex disks for both. I can burn a CD-R 52x - 700mb - 80min. However, I cannot burn a
DVD-R 16x - 4.7gb - 120min. Please help.
Thanks,
Moon

another brand of DVD. DVD disks are not the same. There is a lot of
variation beween brands. Use small quanities to begin until you find
what works consistently for you.

Skybird,
Thanks for responding. Two things:
1. The disk I can use to copy pictures, etc is a Memorex CD-R 52x, 700mg, 80min. There is no problem with these disks.
2. I just tried a FUJIFILM DVD+RW for Data/Video 4.7gb 120min.
NEED HELP! Thanks.

Skybird,
I forgot to mention in my latest posting to you that the FUJIFILM did not work.

You never mentioned how you are trying to burn this DVD???
What software are you using?

As I stated, the "Deluxe" is installed, but not the "LE". I don't know if both should be installed or just the "Deluxe" or just the "LE"
Question? Is this the software?
Thanks for all your help.

MyDVD is a little old, they are on v6. something. (I think this will be the last version)
RecordNow seems to be up to date. However both are close enough that it should not make any difference.
You do not want to install anything from the LE disc. This is a crippled version of the Deluxe and could remove features from Deluxe!
If you want to record Data to a DVD, use RecordNow.
If you are making a Movie or Slideshow, use MyDVD.
As a test you could download Nero's trial version to see if your DVD Drive/Media are recognized with that. (don't install InCD as it will conflict with Sonic's DLA)
I don't actually use either Sonic or Nero so I cannot be more specific. The main thing is to try to isolate the problem to software or drive…
If it works with Nero, it is a software issue.
If it does not work with Nero, it is a drive issue.

Thanks for the info, Jim. I will look into it.
Going in another direction on this same matter...maybe this will help to isolate my problem as well. I am not sure if this is related to a drive or a software problem, but when I insert a blank CD-R (52x, 700mb) disk in Drive "E" to record something and if I click on "MY COMPUTER", right click on Drive "E", then "Properties", it will display the amount of free space (700mb). I can use this CD-R to burn pictures, etc. When I insert a blank DVD-R (16x, 4.7gb) and click the Drive "E" "Properties" it does not provide or display the amount of free space. It shows "0 bytes" for "Used and Free Space" and the "pie chart" below is completely "blue". I cannot record on this disk, which is currently my big problem. It appears that the drive/computer does not recognize this disk.
I appreciate everyones help. Please don't give up on me.

XP has no ability to burn a DVD, hence it will not report what it cannot do…
