Hybrid 140 disc drive won't accept cd

I have a Hybrid Studio 140 desktop.  My mother bought it in late 2007.  The optical CD drive has never worked perfectly, only occasionally accepting a CD.  I'm trying to insert a CD for turbo tax and the drive pulls it, then there's a whirring sound and it spits it out.  Occasionally a large blue arrow will appear in the center of the monitor.  I've uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it but it still won't accept a CD.  I realize I should have addressed this way back when we first got it but my mother didn't use the drive for anything so it wasn't an issue then.   Now that it's mine; I do use it and can't figure out how to fix it.  Any ideas?

Hi Dearmschris,

There is probably nothing you can do to fix it. These slot loading drives are troublesome. My suggestion would be simply to replace it. The replacement instructions can be found in this section of your service manual

Call Dell spare parts for the replacement.

Another idea would be to buy a USB external CD/DVD drive.
